I am truly thrilled to be starting my second year as Special Education Teacher here at Smith Elementary. Becoming a special education teacher is a second career for me. After over twenty years in the television production business, (I directed daytime dramas as well as worked on childrens shows, game shows and the like sounds glamorous, right?) I decided to return to school and get my Masters in teaching special education, my true calling. My uniquely personal experience raising a daughter with special needs inspired me to make this tremendous change in my life and I have been absolutely overjoyed with the results. My classroom experience for the past five years has been extremely varied. Prior to Smith School, I was employed at Tenafly Middle School as a special education teacher/study skills teacher in the 8th Grade. Ive worked in resource rooms, inclusion classrooms, self-contained classrooms as well as center -based programs. I cannot wait to work with my new students and assist them in achieving their best!

My Teaching Philosophy
Empowering students to make their own connections is an absolutely vital element of teaching, serving a two-fold purpose. An approach of this kind enables students to truly understand concepts and instruction, as well as fosters a high self-esteem, which, in turn, assists in motivation. The teacher must provide the tools that will facilitate independence in students and help them achieve their best!
